a centerpiece of the daily office is the round of what are called canticles. three of the canticles are taken from the gospel of Luke, and have pride of place. three more are ancient trinitarian hymns. the remainder are taken from elsewhere in the bible.
no liturgy could possibly include all these canticles; every church must pick and choose which will be highlighted. what is here is only a sampling.
